What Is Qigong And How Will It Help Me?

Updated: May 6

Qigong, pronounced “chi gong,” is a series of practices that work within the realm of energy cultivation. Qi means “life force,” the energy that powers our body, spirit and soul. Gong is the term meaning ‘work’ or 'gather’. Qigong together refers to a form of movement and mind using intention and mindfulness to gather and guide Qi, to make Qi work.

Qigong exercises encompass a wide array of techniques, including gentle movements, controlled breathing, meditation, and visualization. While some styles of qigong have martial origins, others may focus on promoting health, relaxation, and overall well-being.

Qigong is not just a physical exercise; it is a holistic practice, balancing the body’s vital, spiritual and mental energies, promoting preventive health care, and offering avenues for stress reduction and holistic healing.

At Schools of Kung Fu Blue Mountains, our Qigong practice is the method we use to cultivate the internal engine that drives our Tai Chi, however, unlike the intricate choreography of Tai Chi, Qigong movements are often simpler and repetitive, enabling practitioners of various ages and physical abilities to partake in this ancient art.

Once you have the correct training methods, you then have the freedom to direct your Qigong practice to cultivate, develop and improve upon any area of your life that you wish. Physical well-being & recovery, relieving mental stress and sharpening your focus, correcting your posture & balance, raising your energy levels and building healthier and happier relationships with those around you.
